Im my LA, I have run annual KS3 moderation meetings for English since the KS3 SATs were abolished. However, I am aware that this practice is not widespread. Moderation meetings have also been held to enable primary colleagues to standardise their teacher assessments.

In my own school in Design Technology internal moderation of assessment does take place already at KS3. However there is little help out there when it comes to moderation across schools locally and apart from Ofsted who never comment on a school's accuracy in determining levels there is no moderation on a National level (where Teacher Assessment is the accepted method). At KS4 schools are required to attend standardisation meetings for exam boards. Perhaps a national centre for moderation could be set up to which named members of staff who have responsibility for assessment within a department could be required to attend every three years for example? Also these key stakeholders (or a cross section of them)could then be involved in future developments of assessment practices and regulatory changes. So a teacher with a paid responsibility for assessment would be obliged to attend such moderation events on a regular basis.
